About this collection
In the hands of A-Mashiro, history does not repeat, it reverberates. This collection is not a mere homage to the past, but a reconstruction of it, filtered through the lenses of memory, algorithm, and gesture. Drawing upon the visual language of Japanese painting from the 11th to the 21st century, A-Mashiro invites us into a space where tradition is neither static nor sacred, but porous, open to reinterpretation, distortion, and renewal.
His formal vocabulary, a dance of circles and straight lines, recalls the purity of Neo-Plasticism, yet its roots sink deeper into the native soil of Japanese aesthetics. The concepts of Wabi and Ma, imperfection and the space between, resonate within each work, as do the intricate geometries of Kumiko-Zaiku, the wooden latticework of his childhood home. These are not mere references; they are structural memories, encoded into the DNA of each image.
At the heart of this collection lies a tension: between the organic and the generated, the past and the present, the spiritual and the synthetic. A-Mashiro does not use AI as a gimmick, but as a collaborator, a contemporary shikigami summoned to reimagine the ghosts of Yamato-e, Kano, and Rinpa. The result is a new mode of painting, one that blends digital process with human touch, calculation with intuition.
To reconstruct is not to restore. It is to accept the impossibility of return and to embrace transformation. These works do not seek to replicate history, but to stretch it, to warp its dimensions and reveal new contours. In this way, A-Mashiro speaks not only to the lineage of Japanese art, but to its future: mutable, hybrid, and alive.
